FAQS

Please contact us if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Children are adventurous and enjoy exploring their environments. They are often attracted to water but have little understanding of its danger. Young children's physical build also puts them at risk as they are 'top heavy' and prone to falling into water due to a lack of balance.

Drowning can occur quickly and silently.  20 seconds and a few centimetres of water is all it takes for a toddler to drown!

Swimming pools are the most common location for toddler drownings making up 67% of all cases.

Children falling into water account for 78% of drownings.

Evidence suggests that many drowning deaths in backyard pools result from pool barriers that are faulty or non-compliant with Australian standards and the absence of active adult supervision.

1. Supervision

2. Reduce the hazard (Provision of safety barriers, non-climbable zones etc.)

3. Knowledge/water awareness

4. Resuscitation

5. Regular Pool Safety Inspections

  • If you are selling or buying a property.
  • A rental property needs a new certificate each time there is a change of tenant.
  • You may also want to get a pool safety certificate for peace of mind and for the safety of your children and visitors

Approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour.

Based in Cleveland QLD, and service South East Queensland

  • Replace, tighten or adjust the hinges on your gates
  • Ensure the pool barrier height is at least 1200mm from bottom to top
  • Trim back any vegetation or branches that a child could use to climb over the pool barrier
  • Shield or remove climbable objects within 900mm of the pool barrier
  • Install fixed security screens on windows that open into the pool enclosure
  • Remove climbable objects from the pool barrier and surrounding areas.

The same pool safety laws apply if your portable pool or spa meets any of these criteria:

  • can be filled with water to a depth of more than 300mm
  • has a volume of more than 2,000L
  • has a filtration system.

In this case, you need to:

  1. Get a pool safety certificate from a licensed building certifier stating that your pool complies with the pool safety standard, before filling the pool or spa with more than 300mm of water.
  2. Obtain a building approval.
  3. Register your pool or spa.
